Helping businesses get staff riding

Our Back on your Bike program is offering businesses the chance to get staff riding in the lead up to Ride2Work Day on Wednesday 18 October.

The Ride2Work course includes video advice preparation for riding, sessions to improve basic riding skills such as riding slowly, turning and riding one handed, plus a group ride to explore comfortable routes to work.

The program was trialled with MONA staff last year and they its is first business to sign on this year.

Dorset asking for public thoughts on priority projects

Dorset Council has released a draft Priority Projects 2023-25 document for public feedback before 27 September.

The projects include the North East Rail Trail extension to Lilydale Falls, a bike park at Scottsdale that would include a jumps track, skills development and trails, and a masterplan for Derby, which would include an economic impact study of mountain biking.

Bicycle Network up for Award

The Tasmanian Community Achievement Awards has chosen Bicycle Network as a finalist in the Healthy Tasmanian Award this year.

The nomination is based on free volunteer-led social rides and Back on your Bike and Ride2School programs, which get more people riding and reaping the health benefits.

The awards are announced on 13 October, so cross your fingers for us.

Four photos appear as a block under the headline 2023 Finalists.

Be prepared for a crash

St John Ambulance - Tasmania has released an online course with the basic skills needed if you come across someone who has been in a road crash.

It is pitched at learner drivers but is free for anyone to complete online.

Hobart mountain bike news

The Glenorchy Mountain Bike Park has re-opened and the Ride Bellerive Meehan Monster race is back on 19 November 2023, after a three-year hiatus.

The first Meehan Monster since 2020 is offering 25km, 50km or 75km courses, with individual age and team categories and an e-bike entry to help with the 800m climb. Entries open now via www.meehanmonster.com and as the Dirt Devils club is hosting it you'll need an AusCycling racing licence.

The Glenorchy Mountain Bike Park has re-opened after months of work renewing and rebuilding the trails. Check out the Glenorchy Council Facebook page for an updated map of the new trails.
