Works on the Bay Trail extension to the Point Cook Coastal Heritage Park are progressing.
Decking work is nearly complete, and final balustrades and line marking are all being installed.
The trail extension uses an elevated boardwalk-style path on stilts to minimise ground disturbance and reduce any impacts on the surrounding Ramsar wetlands.
The trail extension will provide a continuous off-road journey for the local community to travel by foot or bike from Williamstown to Point Cook Coastal Park, reducing a 3.8km detour to just over 400 metres.
The project is being undertaken by Parks Victoria and developer Aveo and works are scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
Construction is now complete on a series of shared path upgrades that will make it easier for riders to get around Sanctuary Lakes and Saltwater Coast Estate in Point Cook.
The Wyndham City project included closing missing links between existing shared paths and footpaths along Saltwater Promenade, Haze Drive, Skyward Drive, Sanctuary Lakes South Boulevard, Point Cook Homestead Road, Spectacle Crescent and Silverbay Avenue in Point Cook.
Wyndham City’s Healthy City portfolio holder Councillor Adele Hegedich says improvements include widened paths, replacement of gravel paths with concrete paths and new paths.
“By connecting these missing links, we’re creating a continuous shared path experience and allowing pedestrians and cyclists to easily explore Point Cook and access the Wyndham Bay Trail on foot or bike,” Cr Hegedich says.
“These upgrades are being delivered under the Wyndham Coastal and Marine Management Plan and Wyndham Active Transport Strategy and will complement the new wayfinding signage and Bay Trail extension (boardwalk), both of which are on track for completion at the end of 2023.”
“This is a great opportunity to dust off your bike or put on your walking shoes and explore Point Cook and surrounds like never before.”
