Whether you’ve never ridden to work, or you ride every day, Ride2Work Day on Wednesday 18 October is for you.
We’ll be celebrating all first-time and long-time cycling commuters with breakfast in Hobart at Mawson Place and in Launceston at Civic Square from 7.30am–9am.
The Hobart breakfast includes muffins, croissants, coffee by Hobart Coffee Roasters, and smoothies for those who ride into town.
There are no bananas this year, but Banjos Bakery will be providing muffins, croissants and danishes.
The smoothie bike will be back so if you still have some energy you can get your banana fix in liquid form.
The Bike Van will also return, providing you with on-the-spot advice about your bike and quick fixes where possible.
One lucky rider, who signs up to receive the In the Loop newsletter, will go in the running for a Bicycle Network prize bag, which includes one year’s free membership.
If you’ve never ridden to work, take a look at our suggested routes into Hobart page: bicyclenetwork.com.au/bike-routes-into-hobart
And if you live on the eastern shore you could consider riding to Bellerive to catch the ferry. You can lock your bike at the terminal or take it on board with you: bicyclenetwork.com.au/riding-to-the-ferry
For everyone else, the key to choosing a route is to be comfortable. In Tasmania you are allowed to ride on the footpath so if there are sections where there’s no option but a busy road, then take the footpath and be careful of driveways.
If where you live is surrounded by busy roads, consider driving to a path or quieter area and parking, then riding in on a comfortable route. This is also a useful approach if you don’t feel you are fit enough to ride the whole way.
The Launceston breakfast is being put on by the Tamar Bicycle Users Group and includes a coffee and bun at Civic Square.
