The City of Frankston is seeking community input to help its new bike riding strategy deliver appealing options for daily transport.
Ultimately, the City of Frankston Bike Riding Strategy will include infrastructure projects that better connect bike routes in neighbourhoods throughout the municipality.
The council has kicked off an initial round of community consultation, which it hopes will unearth the key barriers that prevent people from riding, and highlight some of the area's troublesome locations.
An interactive map, already heavily populated, allows users to mark locations where they find it difficult to ride. This includes problematic intersections or road crossings, areas where people compelled to ride on the footpath, or where a key connection is missing. Users can also endorse comments left by others.
An online survey is also available, and the project team will run a series of pop-up sessions at the following locations and times:
- Jubilee Stadium: Saturday 7 October, 9am to 1pm
- Corner of Towerhill Road and Foot Street: Tuesday 10 October, 3pm to 4pm
- Athol Court Playground: Thursday 19 October, 3pm to 4pm
- Frankston Foreshore Twilight Market: Friday 20 October, 5pm to 7pm
- Outside Seaford Community Centre: Saturday 28 October, 10am to 12pm
The first round of consultation runs until Wednesday 15 November. Another round of community engagement is slated for February and March 2024 and a draft list of priorities will be put to the public for feedback.
The council plans to share an endorsed bike strategy in August 2024.
