Trucks crowd out Falls Creek connection

Riders taking the Bogong High Plains Road these holidays face significant risks due the high volume of trucks on the road over summer.

Some 200 trucks a day will use the road to the alpine resort as work is in full swing to repair the landslip-damaged road.

The trucks and the trailers are substantial in weight and size, are travelling slowly and cannot manoeuvre quickly to get out of the way of bikes quickly.

A road with so many trucks is definitely not the place to be practising your descending skills just now.

The trucks are on the road between Mt Beauty, the landslip site, and surrounding areas, between 6am and 6pm on weekdays.

If you are riding on the road, ensure that you are visible and use hand signals early to make sure truck drivers understand your intentions.

Thankfully there are other hill routes through the state’s northeast and other parts of Victoria that are available to test our lungs, legs, and nerve.

It is in everybody’s interests to get this landslip repair finished as soon as possible.

And it will be a great experience to ride the route in full again next year when, fingers-crossed, the road will be open again in time for Peaks Challenge 2023.
