We’ve got a few testing rides coming up this month with the 40 km ride out to Granton, the hilly Knocklofty Kneetrembler and scenic Kangaroo Bay to Droughty Point: stay strong, ride long!
Granton Grunter
This is a great ride to test your endurance on a relatively flat course on mostly bike path and quiet roads.
On Saturday 17 July, meet at 9.15 am at the Cenotaph car park. The group will head out along the Intercity Cycleway to its end at Claremont then take the recognised on-road bike route on Main Road through Austins Ferry to Granton.
There will definitely be a coffee stop on the return leg and the group will ride as fast as the slowest member so don’t worry too much about whether you’ll keep up.
Please RSVP to ride leader Greg as the ride will be cancelled if the weather is poor.
Kangaroo Bay to Shag Bay
The Tuesday Challenge ride on 20 July will be a loop incorporating sealed and unsealed tracks which will suit hybrid or mountain bikes, leaving at 12.30 pm from Kangaroo Bay car park.
The 22 km circuit will head up Flagstaff Gully Road, bush tracks to Shag Bay then back along the water on the Foreshore Trail to Bellerive where they’ll finish with a coffee.
RSVP to ride leader Brian in case of cancellation.
Kangaroo Bay to Droughty Point
This is a cruisy 25 km ride along on Saturday 24 July, mostly bike paths and quiet road from Kangaroo Bay to Droughty Point and back along the same route.
A great ride for people not too keen on riding on roads and will suit all levels of experience and bike types and if you feel like it there will be a coffee at the end at Bellerive Village.
Riders meet at 9.45 am at the Kangaroo Bay car park. Please RSVP to ride leader Brian in case the ride is cancelled.
East Devonport–Latrobe Loop
A relaxed 28.8 km loop ride at low elevation is this month’s north-west route, following the ride leader’s training on Sunday 25 July from 1 pm.
Starting at the East Devonport Pioneer Park in Church Street, the ride will take the foreshore path then on to Brooke Street to Wesley Vale and down to Latrobe where the group will join the Coastal Pathway back to East Devonport.
Please RSVP in case the ride times change or gets cancelled.
Knocklofty Kneetrembler
This has become one of our regular rides, at 26 km it has hills, bush tracks, quiet roads, paths and water views, what more could you want?
Meet at 9.15 am at the Cenotaph car park on Saturday 31 July to head down to South Hobart then winding up through the hills of West Hobart and Mt Stuart before dropping down to Lenah Valley and New Town and back along the Intercity Cycleway.
Will suit more experienced riders with bikes with wide tyres and low gearing. There will be a coffee stop along the way but please RSVP to ride leader David in case the ride has to be cancelled.

COVID-19 guidelines
Our social rides leaders are following a set of protocols to help make our rides compliant with government directions:
- Meeting places for rides will have plenty of space for people to maintain 1.5 to 2 metre distancing while unloading bikes, listening to the briefing, and getting ready to ride.
- Riders are asked to register online or via phone so there is no paper being handed around on the day.
- People are asked not to attend rides if they have fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue, shortness of breath or runny nose.
