From a street mural ride, to one sitting down and Christmas lunch as a destination or just the usual coffee incentive, there’s something for most riders in this fortnight of social rides.
Kangaroo Bay exploration
This ride was originally advertised as the Risdon Brook Dam ride but we’ve since discovered that the route we were going to take has been blocked so it’s been changed to Kangaroo Bay on Saturday 4 December.
The 19 km loops out of Kangaroo Bay will explore sealed and gravel tracks, included the Gordons Hill and Rosny Hill nature reserves. Make sure you bike has wide enough tyres to handle gravel paths.
Meet at 9.45 am at the Kangaroo Bay playground car park, with a finish time of about 12 noon. Bicycle Network members are invited to bring a plate for a barbecue following the ride to talk about volunteering opportunities and ideas to help more people ride more often.
Please RSVP to ride leaders Brian and David R. https://ridewithgps.com/events/162918-now-kangaroo-bay-ride-followed-by-commit.
Women on Wheels follow the art trail
This months’ Women on Wheels ride is following the Corridor of Modern Art trail along the Intercity Cycleway from Moonah to Berriedale on Sunday 5 December.
Meet at 9.45 am at the Station Street car park in Moonah and your ride leader Di will guide you along the strip which has more than 10 really interesting pieces of work on the back of factory walls, garages and underpasses.
Please RSVP as the ride will be cancelled if the weather is looking too windy or wet. There will be a coffee stop along the way. https://ridewithgps.com/events/159387-women-on-wheels-corridor-of-modern-art
Recumbent Ride in the Norfolk Plains
You don’t have to ride a recumbent to join this ride, but if you do own one, here’s your chance to put up the flags and flashing lights and join other riders on Saturday 11 December.
Meet ride leader Tony at 10.15 am at the Longford Village Green in Lyttleton Street. The group will leave at 10.30 am for the 47.6 km route out towards Bracknell and back via sealed country roads.
There will be two breaks along the way and there is a chance to shorten the route if the group wants to.

COVID-19 guidelines
Our social rides leaders are following a set of protocols to help make our rides compliant with government directions:
- Meeting places for rides will have plenty of space for people to maintain 1.5 to 2 metre distancing while unloading bikes, listening to the briefing, and getting ready to ride.
- Riders are asked to register online or via phone so there is no paper being handed around on the day.
People are asked not to attend rides if they have fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue, shortness of breath or runny nose.
