Taking time to enjoy the joys of winter
E-bike Coffee Club: Fern Tree–Kingston Beach Rambleery – Thursday 21 July

The E-bike Coffee Club is putting some kilometres on their legs before tucking into lunch on this 46 km ride on Thursday 21 July, taking in Fern Tree and Kingston Beach.

Meet ride leader Di at 9.45 am at Hamlet Café in South Hobart, taking a mix of paths and roads up to Fern Tree then down to Kingston for lunch via Leslie Vale; from there it’s an easier route back via Taroona and Sandy Bay.

You can bring your own lunch or call into one of the cafes at Kingston Beach and please keep in mind this route has some gravel paths and points where you’ll need to push your e-bike up stairs.

Brighton Up River Tracks – Saturday 23 July

This is another of our newer long ride routes at 70 km, heading from Hobart out to Brighton and back on Saturday 23 July.

Meet ride leader David A at 9.15 am at the Cenotaph car park to head up the Intercity Cycleway to the Bowen Bridge for a loop on local roads taking in the river views before heading inland and back down to the bridge to cross the river.

There will be a stop for lunch so bring your own or buy along the way. There will be some gravel and steep sections so you’ll need a bike with wider tyres and lower gearing.

Alt-Fondo: Whale of a Time – Saturday 30 July

Note: this ride has been rescheduled from 16 July to 30 July.

Starting from the Southport Jetty and finishing at the end of the southern-most road in Australia, Whale of a Time on Saturday 16 July isn’t your usual Saturday bunch ride.

Leave your road tyres at home and join us on a 62 km gravel ride past the white sandy beaches of Recherche Bay to the iconic Cockle Creek Whale Lookout and back.

South Cape Road is heavily corrugated in places, with reasonably rough gravel for several kilometres. Standard road tyres (<32mm) are highly puncture prone over this surface – Gravel/CX/XC MTB bikes are recommended.

Bicycle Network Tasmania accredits Social Ride Leaders and requires anyone interested in leading rides to be accredited. COVID-19 guidelines

Our social rides leaders are following a set of protocols to help make our rides compliant with government directions:

  • Meeting places for rides will have plenty of space for people to maintain 1.5 to 2 metre distancing while unloading bikes, listening to the briefing, and getting ready to ride.
  • Riders are asked to register online or via phone so there is no paper being handed around on the day.
  • Please have a mask handy if you intend to finish with coffee or snack with other riders.

People are asked not to attend rides if they have fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue, shortness of breath or runny nose or are in mandated isolation.
