Work is underway to upgrade a section of the bike path along the Nepean Highway in Hampton East, requiring periodic lane closures.
Major Roads Projects Victoria is widening the path between Cummins Road and South Road from very narrow to a usable 2.5m making it safer and smoother for riders.
The works are part of the South Road Upgrade which is improving five intersections between Nepean Highway and Warrigal Road.
From this week until to Friday 29 July, the contractors will work between 7am and 5pm to resurface, realign and widen the path.
To undertake the works safely, they will set up traffic management along sections of the bike path, which will require periodic lane closures along Nepean Highway and South Road.
During this time there will also need to prune and remove up to 13 trees and other vegetation along the bike path to make way for the realigned trail.
These works are weather dependant and we’ll let you know of any changes.
Access to the bike path will be maintained, however there will be times when riders will need to walk their bikes around the work area for their safety.
Pedestrians may also be detoured around the work area.
At times, there will also be traffic controllers in Robert Court to manage movement of construction vehicles in and out of the area.
