Works is underway on the upgrade of Hall Road and the new shared that will connect Skye and Cranbourne West in Melbourne’s outer south-east.
Announced more than a year ago, the project is welcome in a region where bike infrastructure is currently sparse.
Fortunately, new subdivisions in the surrounding district are being delivered with ridable infrastructure and now the government is filling in gaps along the arterials during road upgrades.
The project will build on improvements recently delivered by the Thompsons Road Upgrade and Hallam Road Upgrade.
Thompsons Road upgrade has delivered new shared walking and cycling paths along the 10.7km duplicated length of Thompsons Road between Frankston-Dandenong Road and Berwick-Cranbourne Road, while the Hallam Road project built 1.2km of new shared walking and cycling paths on both sides of Hallam Road near the South Gippsland Highway intersection.
The Hall Road project will build a new walking and cycling path along sections of Hall Road from McCormicks Road to Bradman Drive, where it will connect to the existing walking and cycling path between Bradman Drive and Cranbourne-Frankston Road.
It will also involve the installation of centre median and kerb side safety barriers along sections of the road as well as additional streetlights to improve safety.
MACA Civil and BMD Constructions are delivering the Hall Road Upgrade, which will create more than 850 direct jobs throughout construction, while improving safety and traffic flow for the 17,000 vehicles that travel this road daily.
The project will also complement new bike infrastructure with the Lathams Road Upgrade in Carrum Downs and the Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road Upgrade in Cranbourne.
The Minister for Transport Infrastructure Jacinta Allan said: “We are improving travel in Melbourne’s south-east through significant investment in road and rail – ensuring the growing community has better access to jobs, healthcare and education.”
