The concept designs for the new Keon Park Station in Reservoir are out, showing that the connection to the bike route south towards the city has been incorporated.
The design elevates the rail line over Keon Parade and places the new station on the south side of the street rather than the north side, meaning better bus connections and interface with the local shopping centre.
Early works start later this year, with construction ramping up in 2023 and completion by 2025.
The station is along the Strategic Cycling Corridor planned along the rail line north from Reservoir Station that will eventually stretch via High Street and Epping Road to Bridge Inn Road in the far north of Melbourne.
The route from Reservoir to Keon Parade is partially developed and the latest concepts show it threading around the station precinct and switching to the west side of the railway line.
However, the concepts fail north of Keon Parade where no provision appears to be made for the trail to continue further north.
This oversight needs to be rectified by the Level Crossings Projects by continuing the path infrastructure at least to where the elevated track returns to level ground.
There will be a new Parkiteer secure bike cage as part of the project.
The designs are open for feedback, and you can ask questions, take a survey and make a submission here.
