Christmas comes early for young riders

This week some lucky students received an early Christmas surprise – a brand new Reid bike!

Students from Lalor East Primary School (pictured above) were just some of the students who received bikes as part of Bicycle Networks 'ugly Christmas jersey' campaign.

In the photo below, the same Lalor East students thought they were posing for a photo shoot for our Ride2School program. They did not believe it when they learnt the bikes were theirs to keep!

When they finally realised they weren’t part of a pre-Christmas prank they could hardly contain their excitement. It just goes to show that even in the digital age, a bicycle is still one of the most exhilarating Christmas gifts a young (and young at heart) person can receive.

The Lalor East students participated in the school’s bike education program and were identified by their teachers as in need of a good bike. The parents were also in disbelief, saying that the new bike would transform their child’s life by enabling them to ride to school everyday and also have fun on the weekends.

Bicycle Network’s ugly Christmas jersey campaign directed the profit from the sale of our specially designed ugly cycling jerseys toward new bikes for deserving young people. Every five jerseys sold meant one young person’s Christmas wish came true.

Thank you so much to everyone who purchased a jersey. By sacrificing your fashionable reputation, you’ve helped transform some grateful young people’s lives.
